A few years ago, eye lasers were an absolute niche subject in ophthalmology, with only a few ophthalmic clinics in Germany specialising in laser treatment of refractive errors. There are now over 100 providers in Germany who carry out laser eye treatments.
In principle, any ophthalmologist may carry out refractive laser treatments; no mandatory specialisation is required for this. However, this can be acquired through additional, multi-year training as a laser surgeon.
The operation of highly complex laser devices also requires constant further training in this field, as technologies are developing rapidly. This is particularly important at the Bányai Laser Eye Centre, as evidenced by the recent training at the renowned London Vision Clinic laser clinic.
In addition to the many years of expertise of a laser operator, his in-depth knowledge of general ophthalmology is also immensely important. Especially in recent years, more and more clinics and centers specializing in eye lasers also offer their services in Germany.
However, it is still important that your laser surgeon also has a sound knowledge in the field of general ophthalmology and is not just a laser expert. Laser patients often require comprehensive care and, especially in “difficult” cases (very high diopter values and or very pronounced corneal curvature), the professional assessment of the laser doctor and his expertise as a general ophthalmologist are decisive for a good result.
Especially with regard to the quality of an eye laser procedure, smaller eye laser practices differ from large eye laser chains, since in small practices the individual care and the detailed preliminary discussion are in the foreground. We at the Bányai Eye Laser Centre also guarantee you intensive consultation and you will always be operated on personally by Doctor-medic Liliana Bányai, as she has many years of experience in eye laser surgery.
Over 30,000 patients have been personally treated and lasered by her so far. In addition to her degree as a specialist in ophthalmology at the Katharinenhospital Stuttgart, Dr. Liliana Bányai also has training as a laser surgeon and surgeon for ocular microsurgery (laser operations for cataracts, cataract surgery). She is also a member of the BVA (Professional Association of Ophthalmologists), the BDOC (Federal Association of German Ophthalmic Surgeons) and the ISCRS (The International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery).
Since Ms Doctor-medic Bányai always attaches great importance to individual laser treatment, she decided at the beginning of 2009 to set up her own eye laser centre based in Leonberg. Here, she lasers over 3,000 refractive errors annually, making her one of the top volume surgeons in Germany.
