A few years ago, eye lasers were an absolute niche subject in ophthalmology, with only a few ophthalmic clinics in Germany specialising in laser treatment of refractive errors. There are now over 100 providers in Germany who carry out laser eye treatments.
In principle, any ophthalmologist may carry out refractive laser treatments; no mandatory specialisation is required for this. However, this can be acquired through additional, multi-year training as a laser surgeon.
The operation of highly complex laser devices also requires constant further training in this field, as technologies are developing rapidly. This is particularly important at the Bányai Laser Eye Centre, as evidenced by the recent training at the renowned London Vision Clinic laser clinic.

Laser patients often require comprehensive care and, especially in “difficult” cases (very high diopter values and or very pronounced corneal curvature), the professional assessment of the laser doctor and his expertise as a general ophthalmologist are decisive for a good result.
Especially with regard to the quality of an eye laser procedure, smaller eye laser practices differ from large eye laser chains, since in small practices the individual care and the detailed preliminary discussion are in the foreground.
