Ab in den Frühjahrs-Check mit Ihren Augen! – eine regelmäßige Vorsorge schützt das Augenlicht

Spring is finally coming to Germany and with it a great relaxed mood – the days are getting longer and warmer. The perfect time to motivate yourself: for new sports exercises or even for an eager spring cleaning.

The terraces and balconies will also be given a makeover, as the popular barbecue season will soon be back! We should give our body the same care and undergo a medical spring check. Eye care in particular should be given special importance here.

IGel and glaucoma prevention for eye health

In Germany, patients can use various individual health services with their doctors. The so-called IGels are an additional offer that we also offer to our patients at the Bányai Laser Eye Centre. We have this special igloo in our portfolio as glaucoma prevention and as a general eye check.

For us, thorough prevention is the cornerstone for maintaining your eye health. Often pain, discomfort or symptoms that occur are already a harbinger of worse things that could be detected early enough before the onset of the disease by regular prevention.

Our general eye check includes the following services:

  • Precautionary measures to exclude cataracts (glaucoma)
  • Eye pressure measurement
  • Measurement of the cornea to determine the corneal thickness and geometry
  • Examination of the macula and optic nerve (without eye drops using the angio-OCT device)

The included services of our preventive examination support the treatment of our ophthalmologists, as they provide comprehensive insight into the condition of your cornea, the optic nerve and the fundus.

In this way, we can guarantee you an individual treatment and diagnosis adapted to your needs. At the same time, irreversible vision loss can be avoided and early treatment of eye diseases can be started.

A detailed glaucoma prevention protects against blindness

In our glaucoma prevention, we take special care to ensure that the intraocular pressure measurement AND the measurement of the cornea are carried out. Because it is not enough to only measure the intraocular pressure. A truly reliable statement can only be made when the thickness of the cornea has also been measured. Find out more about our special glaucoma prevention here.

Our general preventive care also focuses on the macula

In addition to cataracts (glaucoma), the macula and optic nerve receive special attention in our general preventive care. The macula describes an area in the back, central area of the retina. Part of this area is the “point of sharpest vision” (central fovea).

A serious eye disease is age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which often occurs in older age and can lead to blindness in the worst case. In macular degeneration, various visual cells are subject to a gradual loss of function, which can lead to a decrease in central visual acuity. Macular degeneration is not curable, but can be treated accordingly if detected early.

The Different Types of Macular Degeneration

In age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a distinction is made between two forms: dry and wet macular degeneration.

Dry macular degeneration is more common than the wet form of AMD. Dry AMD is caused by small deposits (drusen) under the retina, which cause disorders. As a result, the pigment layer thins out and the visual cells are destroyed. In the advanced stage, the disease manifests itself through obvious symptoms such as visual acuity impairment.

High-dose vitamins and trace elements are used as a therapeutic approach in dry AMD. Furthermore, special visual aids can make the best possible use of existing vision.

In moist macular degeneration, which is less common than dry macular degeneration, new vessels grow below the macula. Blood exits through these vessels and swelling occurs in the eye, leading to the death of visual cells.

If the patient suffers from the dry form of macular degeneration, vision is distorted and a dark spot forms in the central field of vision. The moist form of AMD can be contained by injecting so-called VEGF antagonists. They inhibit the growth of new vessels and can thus prevent the aggravation of the symptoms.

Always part of the precaution: high-precision and state-of-the-art technology

In our general preventive care, we examine the macula and optic nerve using a high-precision angio-OCT device. This unique device allows us to examine your macula and optic nerve very closely. The OCT device produces high-resolution layer images of the retina (macula). Especially in the case of unclear symptoms or if there is a suspicion of macular degeneration, the exact OCT images can ideally help with the diagnosis.

Thanks to the OCT device, the examination of the fundus can also be carried out for the first time without eye drops. You can therefore easily drive the car again directly after the examination and your body will not be burdened by additional medication. In addition, thanks to the OCT device, we can compare several measurements immediately, so that a progression forecast can be made.

If you wish, we can offer you the special “General Eye Diseases” preventive care at the Bányai Laser Eye Centre.
