Presbyopia is a phenomenon that is very common in people over the age of 45. Our patients report that they have trouble reading fine print, that the letters are blurred in front of their eyes, and that objects at close range are blurred. Because those affected have to make a constant effort to focus their eyes, they often suffer from headaches as a result. Many also have problems driving, especially in low light conditions. Nevertheless, presbyopia is not an eye disease, but a normal sign of aging.
If you find that your vision is worse, especially at close range, than it used to be, you have several options. Most people initially make do with reading glasses, some also with contact lenses. But many soon find the glasses annoying. Because you do not have to wear it permanently, you often install it and it is therefore often not at hand when you need it. Fortunately, there are methods that make it possible to lead a life without vision aids even in old age.

Presbyopia occurs because the lens loses its elasticity over the years. It can no longer focus on different distances, so that soon you will only be able to see clearly at a distance. So far, Monovision has been used to improve this situation. In the monovision procedure, both eyes are optimised to different distances using smile LASIK or PRK. One is set to farsightedness, the other to near vision. The problem: In the middle area, this creates a so-called “blur zone”, which was still blurred. In this procedure, the brain may have difficulty combining the two images into a coherent whole.
The PRESBYOND ® Laser Blended Vision, which the Bányai Eye Laser Center performs as one of very few providers in Germany, the dominant eye is adjusted to farsightedness, but the non-dominant eye is corrected for both the middle area and the proximity. This method makes it easier for the brain to merge the images, enabling sharp vision at all distances. Even reading glasses are no longer necessary. The mixing of the visual impressions works differently for each person, which is why PRESBYOND ® is a method that is individually adapted to each patient.
For optimal results in the treatment of presbyopia, Doctor-medic Bányai uses the Femto-LASIK procedure, which works with the world’s most advanced laser, the VisuMax femtosecond laser from ZEISS. Injuries are excluded with this gentle method.
